Trump declares victory after Gates admits climate change won't 'lead to humanity’s demise'
President Donald Trump has frequently criticized suggestions that climate change is a threat to humanity, denouncing the claim as a "con job."
Trump enjoyed a major win on the issue this week when longtime ideological enemy Bill Gates broke from his earlier position.
Gates shifts
According to The Washington Times, Gates raised eyebrows on Tuesday when he posted a memo to his Gates Notes website titled "Three Tough Truths About Climate."
"Although climate change will have serious consequences -- particularly for people in the poorest countries -- it will not lead to humanity’s demise," Gates wrote.
"People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future," he continued before arguing that resources should focus on improving the well being of people.
"It's time to put human welfare at the center of our climate strategies, which includes reducing the Green Premium to zero and improving agriculture and health in poor countries," he insisted.
Trump praises Gates for admitting "he was completely WRONG"
That statement was quickly met with a Truth Social post from Trump, who wrote, "I (WE!) just won the War on the Climate Change Hoax."
"Bill Gates has finally admitted that he was completely WRONG on the issue. It took courage to do so, and for that we are all grateful. MAGA!!!" the president added.
The Times observed how Trump was not alone in taking note of Gates' change of course, as conservative economist Stephen Moore did as well during an appearance on Fox Business.
"Look, I have a great deal of respect for Bill Gates, he’s one of the greatest businessmen who ever walked on the planet, but also I have respect for him for basically admitting that he was wrong and that he listened to a lot of the wrong people," Moore said.
Surprising acknowledgment unfolds
Interestingly, Gates' recent comments appear to represent a significant departure from the message that he expressed just a year and a half ago.
The software mogul told 60 Minutes host Anderson Cooper that "every aspect of our daily life has to change" in order to curtail the production of greenhouse gases.
Bill Gates admits that "every aspect of our daily life has to change" in order to get greenhouse gases down to zero, despite boasting that "I probably have one of the highest greenhouse gas footprints of anyone on the planet".

Curiously, Gates went on to acknowledge that he likely has "one of the highest greenhouse gas footprints of anyone on the planet."
