Trump endorses Rep. Mace for reelection

To the surprise of many, former President Donald Trump just endorsed U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) for reelection.

The former president did so in a message that he posted to his Truth Social account on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

What makes this particularly surprising is that Mace and Trump have not always seen eye to eye. But, apparently, that's all water under the bridge now. Take a look:

Trump's endorsement

Trump, in his endorsement message, wrote, "It is my great honor to Endorse a Strong Conservative Voice for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District."

The former president went on to explain why it is that he is endorsing Mace for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Nancy Mace worked hard campaigning across South Carolina in support of our Record-Breaking WIN," Trump wrote, referring to his recent 20-point Republican presidential primary victory over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R).

The former president continued his endorsement of Mace, writing, "In Congress, she is fighting to Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Support our Veterans, Uphold the Rule of Law, Stop Political Weaponization, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment."

Trump, then, concluded, "Congresswoman Nancy Mace has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"

"We can win"

What makes this endorsement surprising, as mentioned earlier, is the fact that Trump and Mace have not always been on the same page, although both are Republicans. In fact, Trump, in the 2022 Midterm elections, even tried to get Mace removed from Congress, by supporting Katie Arrington, who challenged Mace.

The Hill reports:

Mace is looking to get reelected in the seat she has held since 2020. She has been critical of Trump in the past, going after the former president just days after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. In her 2022 race, she faced a tough primary against a Trump-backed challenger Katie Arrington, a former state lawmaker. Mace beat her in the primary and ended up winning the general contest.

Mace appears to have been the first to put her differences with Trump aside, announcing, in January 2024, her support of him in the 2024 presidential election. Now, it appears that Trump is returning the favor with his endorsement of Mace.

Not long after Trump posted his endorsement, the congresswoman celebrated it on her X account.

"Today, we received the complete and total endorsement of President Donald J. Trump! Chip in today so we can win this race!" Mace wrote.
