This week saw Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer announce a new crackdown on fraudulent use of the H-1B work visa system.

Nevertheless, some Republicans recently voiced outrage after claiming that President Donald Trump had blindsided them this week with comments regarding immigration.

Trump: America must "bring in talent"

That's according to the Daily Mail, which highlighted an interview Trump gave on Tuesday night to Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

During their exchange, Ingraham brought up the president's decision in September to impose a $100,000 one-time fee on businesses seeking to sponsor foreign workers for an H-1B visa.

"Does this mean the H-1B visa thing will not be a big priority for your administration?" she asked. "Because if you want to raise wages for American workers, you can't flood the country with tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of foreign workers."

Trump said he agreed that too many foreign workers are in the country but stressed that "you also do have to bring in talent."

President suggests that raid on Hyundai factory was a mistake

The president went on to reference a September raid carried out by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at a Hyundai factory, suggesting it was a mistake.

"Let me give you an example in Georgia. They raided because they wanted illegal immigrants out. They had people from South Korea that made batteries all their lives," he said.

"You know, making batteries are very complicated. It’s not an easy thing and very dangerous. A lot of explosions, a lot of problems," Trump argued.

"They had like five or six hundred people, early stages, to make batteries and to teach people how to I do it. Well, they wanted them to get out of the kind you’re going to need that, Laura," he maintained.

Trump's remarks spark anger among some conservatives

The Daily Mail noted how Trump's comments were met with condemnation from some on the right, including attorney and Lake County, Florida Commissioner Anthony Sabatini.

"This is insane—we are going to lose the mid-terms so badly," Sabatini wrote in a social media post on Tuesday evening.

"We’ve never seen an administration crash [and] burn in its first year so badly—for no reason other than to appease donors & special interests," he continued before alleging that "Trump has surrounded himself with the worst people."
