Trump FBI launches investigation into New York's attorney general
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has just launched an investigation into the attorney general of New York.
The news was reported by the New York Post.
The attorney general of New York, of course, is Democrat Letitia James, who has become infamous for her weaponization of the legal system against President Donald Trump.
Now, it appears that the shoe is on the other foot and that, unlike in her case against Trump, the Trump administration might just have some real evidence of wrongdoing against her.
The details
It was the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which is led by William Pulte, that asked the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch an investigation into James.
Breitbart News reports:
Pulte alleged James “falsified records” to get favorable loans on two homes, one residence in Virginia and one in Brooklyn. James reportedly indicated the house in Virginia would be her main residence while serving as New York’s attorney general. She is also accused of misrepresenting the number of units in the Brooklyn home . . . James has allegedly said in building permit applications and mortgage documents that it only has four units,
Authorities are only in the investigation stage of this matter.
But, it already appears that James could be charged with such things, according to Breitbart, as "wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, and false statements to a financial institution."
The FBI has not released a statement on the situation just yet.
James, for her part, has decided not to comment on this investigation.
It turns out, however, that she has retained Attorney Abbe Lowell - the same man who represented Hunter Biden - and Lowell has released a statement.
He said:
These baseless and long-discredited allegations, put to rest by my April 24 letter to the Department of Justice, are suddenly back in the news just days after President Trump publicly attacked Attorney General James. This appears to be the political retribution President Trump threatened to exact that AG Bondi assured the Senate would not occur on her watch. If prosecutors are genuinely interested in the truth, we are prepared to meet false claims with facts.
It remains to be seen how this is all going to play out.
The matter is being handled by New York's Northern District, which is led by U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III, who is an ally of President Trump.
Sarcone, for his part, has not released a statement on the matter.
