Trump gets huge endorsement
Former President Donald Trump just received a big time endorsement.
Fox News reports, "More than 400 national security and foreign policy officials, ex-Cabinet members, retired military officers, and Gold Star families endorsed former President Trump on Thursday."
They did so in a letter that can be found here.
The letter, according to Fox, was "organized by former National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien and former NSC Chief of Staff Alex Gray."
The details
The main thrust of the letter argues that Trump is demonstrably better for the country than Vice President Kamala Harris, given the contrasting records of the Trump administration and the Biden-Harris administration.
The letter, for example, states:
From a world at peace under President Trump, we are closer to a third world war than ever before under the Biden-Harris Administration. With multiple escalating wars around the world, an open border that allows terrorists to flood into the American homeland, and malign actors like China operating unabated, U.S. national security has been profoundly damaged by the failed policies of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.
Interestingly, the letter was signed by some individual who have not exactly been big supporters of Trump.
This would include former Attorney General Bill Barr and former 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, among others.
Background
This endorsement of Trump comes after Harris was endorsed by a large number of former civilian national security officials and military leaders.
Just the News reported:
Published by the National Security Leaders for America and addressed in an open format to the American people, the recent endorsement letter argued that Harris is the only candidate in the race that would be a “serious and capable” commander-in-chief and able to protect “American democracy.”
Unlike the endorsement received by Trump, however, those who endorsed Harris were unable to support their argument for Harris with Harris's record. Instead, they mostly supported it by fearmongering about Trump.
Just the News reports that the endorsement "echoed" the infamous letter put out, before the 2020 presidential election, by intelligence officials who claimed that the Hunter Biden laptop report was "Russian misinformation," even though it was authentic and even though U.S. intelligence knew it was authentic.
Fred Fleitz, the former chief of staff of Trump's National Security Council, said of the letter endorsing Harris:
[It] makes several ridiculously false accusations, such as accusing Trump of ‘heaping praise’ on Hezbollah and ‘excoriating’ Israel. And, of course, the letter includes the usual Democratic talking points about Trump being an impulsive leader who threatens democracy.
