According to the Washington Examiner, the legal team of former President Donald Trump has just handed over classified materials to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). 

That's going to make it more difficult for President Joe Biden and the Democrats to keep pushing the narrative that Trump hasn't been complying with the U.S. government.

According to ABC News, the classified items that Trump's legal team handed over to the DOJ on Friday were discovered at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

A search of the residence, ordered by Trump, was conducted to ensure that no more classified materials were found there. And, this search yielded a folder with classification markings.

The Examiner reports:

The folder was discovered in January in the main complex of Trump's Florida resort, separate from a storage room where previous documents were found during a raid last year, the sources said. The classification level of the documents and the nature of the documents inside the folder were not clear.

On top of this, Trump's legal team appears to have also handed over to the DOJ a laptop that belonged to a current aide of Trump.

It is unclear who the aide is. But, reports indicate that the laptop was handed over because classified documents had been copied onto it.

Background

This is the latest development in the classified documents case involving Trump.

Since the beginning of this situation, at least two other classified documents situations have arisen, one involving President Biden and the other involving Vice President Mike Pence.

Biden has attempted to distinguish his case from Trump's by claiming that whereas Biden has complied with the government Trump has not.

This has been used to justify the disparity in treatment, which is exemplified most conspicuously by the fact that the FBI conducted an unprecedented raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, whereas it conducted a seemingly friendly, consensual search of Biden's residence.

Trump's latest actions, as stated at the outset, are going to make it harder for Biden and the Democrats to continue this narrative.

"A witch hunt"

Trump and his allies maintain that he is being politically targeted by the federal government.

In a statement to ABC, Trump's team said:

[This] is nothing more than a targeted, politically motivated witch hunt against President Trump, concocted to try and prevent the American people from returning him to the White House. Just like all the other fake hoaxes thrown at President Trump, this corrupt effort will also fail. The weaponized Department of Injustice has shown no regard for common decency and key rules that govern the legal system.
