An assortment of historic firsts have been achieved by President Donald Trump over his decade in politics and he is on the verge of yet another rare feat.

Trump received an "unprecedented" invitation this week from King Charles III for a second official state visit to the United Kingdom, according to Breitbart.

British Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer hand-delivered the letter from the king to the president during a visit to the White House on Thursday, and Trump received it graciously and with "great honor."

"This is truly historic and unprecedented"

"This is a letter from His Majesty the King, it's an invitation for a second state visit," PM Starmer said of the letter while seated beside President Trump in the Oval Office. "This is really special. This has never happened before. This is unprecedented."

"And I think that just symbolizes the strength of the relationship" between the U.S. and U.K., he continued. "So this is a very special letter. I think the last state visit was a tremendous success. His Majesty the King wants to make this even better than that."

"So this is truly historic and unprecedented second state visit he wants to talk that through with you," the prime minister added before joking that he needed an answer to take back to the king about whether the invitation had been accepted.

"The answer is yes," Trump replied on behalf of himself and first lady Melania Trump. "The answer is yes and we look forward to being there and honoring the king and honoring, really, the country. Your country is a fantastic country, and it'll be our honor to be there."

What did the king's letter say?

The Guardian reported that President Trump briefly displayed to reporters the letter he'd received from King Charles III, and though his hand partially obscured some of what was written, enough of the message was visible to make out the gist of what had been said.

The king proposed meeting with the president at either of two properties owned by the monarchy, Dumfries House or Balmoral Castle, which are located near two Trump-owned golf courses in Scotland, to discuss the specific details of a second state visit.

"Quite apart from this presenting an opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest, it would also offer a valuable chance to plan a historic second state visit to the United Kingdom," Charles wrote. "As you will know this is unprecedented by a U.S. President. That is why I would find it helpful for us to be able to discuss, together, a range of options for location and programme content."

"In so doing, working together, I know we will further enhance the special relationship between our two countries of which we are both so proud," the letter added and was hand-signed, "Yours Most Sincerely, Charles."

First time a second state visit has been extended to any elected leader in the modern era

The invitation from King Charles III to President Trump for a second state visit is "unprecedented" in that no second-term U.S. president has ever been honored with an official state visit -- they are typically invited to Windsor Castle for tea -- but even more broadly it makes Trump the first elected leader of any nationality to receive an invitation for a second official state visit with the British monarchy in the modern era, per USA Today.

Trump was graciously received by the late Queen Elizabeth II for a state visit during his first term in 2019, which followed his more informal visit for tea with the queen at Windsor in 2018.
