Former President Donald Trump just revealed that, if elected to serve a second term, his eldest daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, won't be part of his next administration, according to Breitbart.

That revelation came amid a lengthy and at-times contentious interview with Fox News host Bret Baier that aired Monday on Baier's "Special Report" program.

"My family’s been through hell"

The New York Post reported that Baier asked Trump at one point if Ivanka and Jared would return to serve in the White House with him in 2024 if he were to win re-election, but the former president said "No" in reply.

"I said, that’s enough for the family. You know why? It’s too painful for the family," Trump said. "My family’s been through hell."

"I mean, they have -- Eric, my son, who’s a fine boy. You know him very well. He’s a fine young man, good student, good everything, comes in. We’re doing beautifully. Then I decide to run for president," he continued. "I mean, I don’t think anybody in the world in history has ever had more subpoenas sent to him."

"Nobody has been through what my family has been through. Ivanka had a really successful line of clothing, I mean, making a fortune. When I did this, she was really — she closed it up. She sort of felt she had to, but she closed it up," Trump added.

Ivanka and Jared played key advisory roles during Trump presidency

NBC News reported that both Ivanka and her husband Jared -- along with former first lady Melania Trump -- have been noticeably absent from any of former President Trump's campaign events since he launched his re-election bid shortly after the midterm elections in November 2022.

However, Trump has continued to enjoy high-profile support in the endeavor from his two eldest sons, Don Jr. and Eric -- as well as their respective significant others, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Lara Trump -- who have been visible and vocal in backing their father's bid to return to the White House for another four-year term.

According to The Hill, both Ivanka and Jared played key roles as senior advisers throughout the entirety of Trump's first term in office from 2017-2021.

Kushner served as a top adviser on both domestic and foreign policy matters, with a focus on diplomacy across the Middle East, while Ivanka's focus had been on various women's issues both domestically and internationally.

Choosing to stay out of politics

People magazine reported that the news that Ivanka and Jared wouldn't be a part of a prospective second term for former President Trump isn't all that surprising, given that Ivanka had already made it abundantly clear when her father announced his campaign last year that she had no plans to re-engage in politics and said, "While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena."

Both Ivanka and Jared moved down to Miami, Florida following the 2020 election and have been focused on raising their three young children -- Arabella Rose, 11, Joseph Frederick, 9, and Theodore James, 6 -- but still maintains a good relationship with her father, according to an unnamed source inside the Trump's circle.

"It has been a rough period for all of the Trump kids, but Ivanka has always been especially close to her father," the source told the outlet. "She loves him, her kids love him, and they are still a close family. But Ivanka does not want to be involved with the legal issues. She is removed from it and has adapted well to Miami. Her whole family loves it."

The source further stated that Ivanka and Jared were going on "about their lives" and had become "used to controversy." The source added, "Is Ivanka upset about what is happening to her father? Yes, but she hasn’t abandoned him. They interact and are still a family. That is the way the Trumps are."
