Trump job approval up to 53% despite tariffs: New poll
A new DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners poll taken in the first few days of April showed a four-point uptick in President Donald Trump's job approval rating, even as he announced tariffs that caused the stock market to tumble a few days later.
Trump's approval stands at 53% in the poll, breaking the halfway point for the first time.
Breaking down the numbers demographically, he is up 13% with young voters 18 to 29, up 6% with Democrats and Independents, and up 17% with black voters since the last poll in March.
Poll respondents even approved narrowly of Trump's tariffs, with 39% favoring them and 37% against.
Too soon to tell
Many voters don't know what to think of the tariffs; 24% said they weren't sure.
Notably, the poll was taken before the stock markets started a downward slide as corporate America started handwringing about the effects the tariffs were going to have on the economy.
It's too soon to say how all that will go, and the stock markets can bounce back up as easily as they went down if Trump's plans turn out better than expected.
And Trump may take a hit to his approval ratings for a while until that happens.
He's confident his plans will work, so he's not likely to be swayed by public opinion at this point.
Not swayed by doomsayers
The poll did show that Americans are no longer swayed by media doomsaying, since there has been plenty of that all the way back to the campaign.
We kind of knew no one was really listening anymore unless they already agreed with Democrat talking points, since four criminal indictments, half a billion in fines and constant media attention to it all didn't keep voters from ushering Trump into a second term.
The media has tried to crucify Trump over DOGE since the day it was created. That hasn't worked.
Then they tried to make Signalgate worse than Watergate. That didn't work either.
Before the poll was even taken, the media was spreading doom and gloom over the tariffs. Apparently, more than half of people have faith in Trump and his ability to make America successful and prosperous again, even if the media doesn't.
