Trump makes triumphant return to Twitter

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday made a triumphant return to Twitter - now known as X.

Trump did so by posting to the platform his mugshot. This is the mugshot that was taken when Trump was recently booked at the jail in Atlanta, Georgia. The booking comes after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) indicted Trump and nearly 20 others for, essentially, challenging Georgia's results in the 2020 presidential election.

Here is Trump's post:

Trump's return

The above post was Trump's first post on X since January 2021. January 2021, of course, is when the Jan. 6 Capitol protest occurred, and it is when Big Tech, including Twitter, decided to de-platform Trump.

X is now under the management of Elon Musk, who, some time ago, reinstated Trump's account. Trump, nonetheless, decided against returning to X, electing instead to remain loyal to his social media platform: Truth Social.

Trump, apparently, saw an opportunity that he couldn't pass up on Thursday. One thing that is clear from the response to Trump's post is that, despite Trump's long absence from X, he has as much support as ever. In fact, he may be even more popular now.

At the time of this writing - Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023 - Trump's X post has a staggering 228 million views. Yesterday, Musk revealed that Trump's post had been receiving "approximately 10 million views per hour."

Trump's post, at the time of this writing, also has received 1.5 million likes.

The left can't handle it

This, of course, was not Trump's only success on Musk's platform over the past week.

Trump, on Wednesday night, also did an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. The interview, which was aired at the same time as the first Republican presidential primary debate, has, at the time of this writing, received an astounding 259 million views.

Suffice it to say that all of this is causing the political left to lose their minds. They appear to have been particularly triggered by the success of Trump's mugshot marketing.

It's understandable. After all, the indictments and the mugshot are designed to get Trump - to end his political career once and for all - but they are not working. Instead, they have only served to galvanize Trump, and, now, Trump is even fundraising off of them.

As Trump put it, before Willis indicted him, "I need one more indictment to ensure my election!" He's now got it, and, with it, some serious - perhaps unstoppable - 2024 momentum.
