Trump meetup with Schumer revealed

Former President Donald Trump recently "made nice" with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

This is according to a new report from the New York Post

This has come as a big surprise to many considering the fact that Schumer has proven to be one of Trump's most vocal opponents in Congress. And, Trump, over the years, has made it clear that the feeling is mutual.

Apparently, however, both men recently managed to put their differences aside.

Here is what happened:

The situation took place at the recently held Al Smith Dinner. The Post reports that the two men met backstage on Thursday night.

Per the outlet:

Former President Donald Trump acted to mend fences with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer backstage at Thursday night’s Al Smith Dinner — before kicking them down again with a joke about the Brooklyn Democrat’s odds of becoming the “first woman president.”

The outlet reports Trump as saying, "You’re my guy, you’re my guy," while he "warmly" shook Schumer's hand.

The Post goes on to report:

Schumer, 73, was seated center stage at the white-tie event, but stood up and clapped for the 45th president, who was seated just two places away — next to host Cardinal Timothy Dolan and former first lady Melania Trump. Trump was later caught on camera leaning in and speaking inaudibly to Schumer for several moments before taking the podium to let rip with some of his best material.

Some of that material came at Schumer's expense.

"The first woman president"

Trump, at the event, told a joke about Schumer that had the crowd laughing.

"Chuck Schumer is here looking very glum. Doesn’t he look glum? He looks glum," the former president asked. That's when he hit them with the punchline: "But look on the bright side, Chuck, considering how woke your party has become, if Kamala loses, you still have a chance to become the first woman president."

Even many Democrats agreed that it was a successful evening for Trump.

Trump's opponent in the 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris, was not in attendance. She, instead, chose to do other campaign activities, breaking a long tradition of presidential candidates appearing at the dinner.

For those familiar with Trump, it will come as no surprise that he was able to put his differences with the likes of Schumer aside to have a successful event. It is probably one of Trump's best qualities, getting things accomplished even with one's opponents.
