President-elect Donald Trump did it again.

In a series of announcements over the past several weeks, Trump has named a roster of power players to lead his administration starting next year, and according to Fox News, his latest hire, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, is nothing less than a rock star in his field.

The president-elect nominated the Stanford-trained physician and economist to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as its next director.

He will work closely alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr. "to direct the Nation's Medical Research," according to a statement Trump released regarding his decision to hire Bhattacharya.

What's going on?

Like most of his Cabinet and administration selections, Bhattacharya is intent on overhauling the agency he'll lead to benefit Americans and get away from the establishment mentality.

He reportedly met with RFK Jr. and impressed the former presidential candidate with his ideas to reshape the agency, especially in the post-COVID era. Bhattacharya was a prominent critic of Dr. Anthony Fauci early on during the pandemic.

Trump issued a statement announcing the hiring of the famous doctor and economist, and heaped praise on his ability to lead the institute in the right direction.

Making "important discoveries"

"I am thrilled to nominate Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, to serve as Director of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Bhattacharya will work in cooperation with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to direct the Nation’s Medical Research, and to make important discoveries that will improve Health, and save lives," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

RFK Jr. also released a statement praising Trump for selecting Bhattacharya for the job.

"I'm so grateful to President Trump for this spectacular appointment. Dr. Jay Bhattacharya is the ideal leader to restore NIH as the international template for gold-standard science and evidence-based medicine," he wrote in an X post.

Social media reaction

Bhattacharya already has a huge following of supporters who applauded his approach and dissent on how the federal government handled -- or mishandled -- the pandemic.

"This cabinet is gonna be one of the best in history. I’m so excited to bring on real change!" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Dr. Jay Bhattacharya going from a Twitter blacklist to NIH Director shows that real truth always wins in the end."

Like most of his other picks, the famed doctor will need to be confirmed in the U.S. Senate, which Republicans will control beginning in January.
