Trump nominates father-in-law to key role
President-Elect Donald Trump has selected Christian Lebanese businessman Massad Boulos to be his senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.
Trump announced his selection of Boulos in a message that he posted to his Truth Social account on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024.
For those unfamiliar with Boulos, in addition to be a businessman, he is also the father of Tiffany Trump's husband. Tiffany, of course, is one of Trump's children, which makes Boulos a father-in-law.
The move, as we will see, is not that big of a surprise.
The nomination.
In his Truth Social message, Trump began, "I am proud to announce that Massad Boulos will serve as Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs."
Trump went on to describe Boulos as "an accomplished lawyer and a highly respected leader in the business world."
He wrote:
Massad is an accomplished lawyer and a highly respected leader in the business world, with extensive experience on the International scene. He has been a longtime proponent of Republican and Conservative values, an asset to my Campaign, and was instrumental in building tremendous new coalitions with the Arab American Community.
Boulos indeed has already been working with Trump, particularly on his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump concluded his message, writing:
Massad is a dealmaker, and an unwavering supporter of PEACE in the Middle East. He will be a strong advocate for the United States, and its interests, and I am pleased to have him on our team!
He is not the only one
Boulos is not the only father-in-law who is joining Trump's incoming administration. The president-elect has also chosen Charles Kushner to be the next United States Ambassador to France.
Charles Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka.
The reader will likely remember that Jared Kushner was a key member of Trump's first administration. This time around, however, it does not appear as though Jared will be joining Trump. Instead, his father will.
Trump, in nominating Kushner, wrote:
I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country and its interests.
Trump also has a bit of a political history with Charles Kushner. Breitbart News reports, "In December 2020, Charles Kushner was among the 16 people that Trump pardoned." This came after Kushner "was sentenced to serve two years in federal prison after he pled guilty to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign donation."
