Former National Security Adviser Mike Waltz was recently ousted from his position because of the Signal chat leak controversy that involved Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

According to Fox News, after Waltz exited the position, it didn't take long for President Donald Trump to place him in another high-level administration role -- ambassador to the United Nations.

Trump announced the nomination on Tuesday, sparking surprise around Washington, D.C., given the freshness of Waltz's exit from his position.

To give the administration time to select someone to replace Waltz as the National Security Adviser, Trump indicated that Sec. of State Marco Rubio would hold the position in the interim.

Trump praises Waltz

The president heaped praise on Waltz after he was ousted from one high-level position and set to hold another.

"I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations," Trump announced on Thursday via his Truth Social account.

"From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role," Trump added.

"In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department. Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Waltz later wrote on social media ,"I’m deeply honored to continue my service to President Trump and our great nation."

Social media reaction

Users across social media reacted to the news of Waltz's new position.

"Congratulations sir! Well deserved," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Blessings to you Mike. We need patriots like you representing and protecting our great nation at the globalist UN!"

Many supported Trump nominating Waltz to the position. He might have admittedly made an embarrassing misstep as far as the Signal chat controversy is concerned, but he's clearly still an excellent and trusted leader who gets the job done.
