One of President Donald Trump's judicial nominees recently got spat on in the middle of a television interview.

The situation, according to the New York Posttook place on Thursday, when the nominee, Ed Martin, was doing an interview, outdoors, with Newsmax.

If you are unfamiliar with Martin, he is the attorney whom Trump selected to be the top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. His nomination, however, did not go Trump's way. There will be more on this in a moment.

First, however, let's look at the disgusting ordeal that took place during the interview.

Prepare yourself

There is video of the incident a few paragraphs down.

The Post reports:

The sick ordeal unfolded as Martin was speaking to Newsmax on Thursday . . . Martin was mid-sentence when the unidentified woman suddenly appeared while walking a dog and started waving her finger in his face. “You are Ed Martin,” she could be heard saying aggressively. She then hurled abuse at him before launching a huge gob of spittle at close range, before stomping off as a speechless Martin watched in horror.

Subsequent reports indicate that the woman has been arrested, and she is facing some serious prison time.

Background

As mentioned earlier, Trump had picked Martin to be the U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C. The nominations, however, ran into difficulties in the Senate.

As would be expected, the Democrats united in opposition to Martin's nomination. What was not expected, however, was opposition from some Senate Republicans.

This ended up being enough to sink Martin's nomination.

Trump responded by withdrawing the nomination and by selecting Fox News host Jeanine Pirro to be the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. In order to get the full-time job, she will still have to be confirmed by the Senate.

As for Martin's future, Trump has put out a statement, saying:

Ed Martin has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney, and will be moving to the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney. In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims. Congratulations Ed!
