Trump: 'only candidate' who can 'prevent world war three'

 April 22, 2023

Former President Donald Trump says that, out of all of the 2024 presidential candidates, he is the "only candidate" who can "prevent world war three."

Trump made the statement on Friday during a speech that he gave at the 2023 Lincoln-Reagan Dinner that was held by the GOP in Lee County, Florida.

Trump was one of several speakers on the night. Numerous top Republicans were in attendance.

But, there was one notable absence, namely, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) - the man whom many see as Trump's top Republican 2024 rival.

The only one

At one point in his speech, Trump sought to emphasize the numerous bad effects of Joe Biden's presidency, including the fact that there is now an "unthinkable threat of nuclear war."

Trump, here, is likely referring to the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin has, on several occasions, threatened to use nuclear weapons against the West because the West has been assisting Ukraine in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Trump went on to contrast himself with Biden, noting that, as opposed to Biden starting wars, he, Trump, "got us out of endless wars." And, Trump promised more success in the future, if he is reelected.

"Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, shortly after I win the presidency, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled," Trump said.

The former president added, "Standing before you today, I am the only candidate who can make this promise: I will prevent World War Three."

This is not the first time that Trump has made either claim, that is, that he will end the Russia-Ukraine war and that he will prevent world war three.

He made both claims at multiple campaign events that were held in March.

In early March, at a campaign event in Davenport, Iowa, for example, Trump also said, "Standing before you today, I am the only candidate that can prevent World War III." Trump also pledged to end the Russia-Ukraine War in "24 hours" if elected president in 2024.

Later in March, at another campaign event, Trump reiterated both points. Trump, on this occasion, also said that "it's no coincidence that the deep state is coming after me even harder, since I pledged to swiftly end the war in Ukraine."

Considering the frequency with which Trump has made both points, it is clear that both points - that he will end the Russia-Ukraine war and that he will prevent world war three - are central planks of 'his reelection platform.
