Trump praises John Fetterman following meeting at Mar-a-Lago
While many Democrats have pledged to fight tooth and nail against President-elect Donald Trump, one member of the party could be a potential ally.
A new report suggests that Trump has won the respect of Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, and the feeling appears to be mutual.
Trump says Fetterman is "impressive" and "a fascinating man"
That's according to an interview Trump had with the Washington Examiner in which he described having dinner with Fetterman at Mar-a-Lago
"We had a great meeting," the president-elect stated. "He was very impressive. His wife was with him, and she was really fantastic, too," he said.
"It was a totally fascinating meeting. He’s a fascinating man, and his wife is lovely. They were both up, and I couldn’t be more impressed," Trump continued.
He went on to describe Fetterman as being "a commonsense person," adding, "He's not liberal or conservative. He’s just a commonsense person, which is beautiful."
Trump and Fetterman both oppose sale of U.S. Steel to Japanese firm
For his part, Fetterman released a statement that read, "President Trump invited me to meet, and I accepted. I’m the senator for all Pennsylvanians — not just Democrats in Pennsylvania."
"I’ve been clear that no one is my gatekeeper. I will meet with and have a conversation with anyone if it helps me deliver for Pennsylvania and the nation," the Democratic senator asserted.
The Examiner noted how one area of agreement for Trump and Fetterman is their shared opposition to Nippon Steel's attempted purchase of U.S. Steel.
Meanwhile, Fetterman raised eyebrows last week when he defended Trump's interest in acquiring Greenland for the United States.
Fetterman calls for a "responsible conversation" on Greenland
"There's a lot of talk about Greenland, for example, and, I know there’s a lot of freakouts and of course, I would never support taking it by force," Breitbart quoted Fetterman as telling Fox News.

"But, I do think it’s a responsible conversation if they were open to acquiring it, you know, whether just buying it outright," he asserted.
"If anyone thinks that’s bonkers, it’s like, well, remember the Louisiana Purchase," the Pennsylvania lawmaker pointed out before observing that Alaska was also purchased from Russia.
