Trump pushing AG to investigate Obama

President Donald Trump surprised few when he called out former President Barack Obama in recent comments.

However, he increased the pressure when he called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Obama, saying the former president had been caught “cold” and was guilty of “treason," as The Daily Mail reported.

Trump’s remarks came on the heels of questions about the late financier-turned human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who died in federal custody in late 2019.

Documents surrounding Epstein’s life and death were recently dubbed inconsequential, and the Department of Justice announced that some highly anticipated details of Epstein’s life won’t be released.

During the interaction, Trump attempted to turn the attention of viewers to a report by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, which accused Obama on several counts.

According to the report, evidence was found that Obama was behind a “treasonous conspiracy” that fueled the Russia “hoax” meant to push him out of his position as political frontrunner.

Gabbard made several criminal referrals to Bondi and the Justice Department, and the agency is currently in the process of assessing the complaints.

“After what they did to me, whether it's right or wrong, it's time to go after people,” Trump said from the Oval Office, talking to reporters alongside Philippine President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr.

Who goes first

Reporters spoke to Trump, asking who the Justice Department should go after first, following Gabbard’s report.

Trump was quick to throw shade at the former occupant of his office, but he had a few other possible suspects: “Well, based on what I read, and I read pretty much what you read, it would be President Obama – who started it – and Biden was there with him, and [James] Comey was there, and [James] Clapper, the whole group was there,” Trump responded.

The president seemed clear that he was looking for quick and decisive action on the part of Bondi, but ultimately said it was up to her.

“The Justice Department would have to act. We have a very competent, very good, very loyal to our country person in Pam Bondi – very respected. And she – it's going to be her decision,” Trump said.

From Obama

Obama didn’t take long to respond, with his office firing back at the president despite not typically addressing this kind of accusation.

Patrick Rodenbush of Obama's office said, “Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response.

“But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one. These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction."

The former president asserted that “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.”
