Trump regains the support of more Republicans who left him after the 2020 election

Former President Donald Trump is continuing to regain the support of some of those Republican politicians whose support he lost after the 2020 presidential election.

This is according to a new report from Just the News.

It has to be admitted that there are still some Republicans - perhaps, most notably, ousted U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) - who still refuse to support Trump. Cheney, in fact, has now even gone so far as to start campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Not everyone, though, is as far gone as Cheney is, and those who are not, generally, seem to be returning to the pro-Trump crowd.

Naming names

Just the News, in its report, highlights several of the individuals who are back to supporting Trump. This list includes Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R), former Trump administration ambassador Gordon Sondland, former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, and former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr.

What makes this so surprising is the fact that most of these individuals have had significant criticism of Trump over the last four years. Some of the criticism has even been on the nasty side.

Sondland, for example, actually was a key witness for the Democrats in their first impeachment of Trump. Barr, on the other hand, has spent a significant amount of time bashing Trump on mainstream media programs. And, we all know how Trump and Kemp have been at each others' throats since the 2020 presidential election.

With this in mind, the big question is what has changed - what has caused these individuals to return to Trump?

The answer is actually simple.

Harris

It turns out that the prospect of a Harris presidency is just too much for these individuals to bear.

Sondland, for example, put it this way:

I’ve now lived four years under the Biden-Harris policies and I have to say that those policies are not only becoming an existential threat to our country’s way of life but to our allies as well.

Haley has similarly said:

The policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have invited conflict, diminished America’s standing around the globe, and imperiled our national security. Over the last four years, peace throughout the world has been upended by America’s emboldened adversaries.

Barr, for his part, said, 'The threat to our country is from the far-left and the drive that’s been occurring toward really a socialistic system and one that brooks no opposition, that cancels people."

The big question is how many Americans feel as these individuals do and are therefore willing to support Trump despite other criticisms that they have of him. We'll find out the answer soon enough.
