Trump relaunches Biden-abused CBP mobile app, now with tool for illegal migrants to self-deport
During the prior Biden-Harris administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection used a mobile app known as CBP-One to help facilitate the entry, processing, and release into the country of nearly 1 million illegal migrants.
The CBP-One app was swiftly shut down after President Donald Trump took office but now has been relaunched with a new name and altered goal of facilitating the self-deportation of illegal aliens, Breitbart reported.
The app still retains some of the other features from its previous iteration but noticeably absent is the tool that allowed migrants to schedule appointments to make dubious asylum claims that were typically granted without much or any initial vetting.
Trump shut down Biden's CBP-One app
On President Trump's first day in office, he signed an executive order titled "Securing Our Borders" that, among other things, ordered the Department of Homeland Security to "Cease using the 'CBP One' application as a method of paroling or facilitating the entry of otherwise inadmissible aliens into the United States."
That same day, Trump also signed a separate executive order related to illegal immigration titled "Protecting the American People From Invasion," which included a provision that is particularly relevant to the reported relaunch of the CBP mobile app less than two months after it was shut down.
In a subheading titled "Encouraging Voluntary Compliance with the Law," the head of DHS, in coordination with the attorney general and secretary of state, was ordered to "adopt policies and procedures to encourage aliens unlawfully in the United States to voluntarily depart as soon as possible."
CBP launches retooled mobile app
On Monday, a CBP press release cited that second executive order as authorizing the relaunch of an "enhanced" mobile app that is now known as CBP-Home that includes a new feature dubbed "Intent to Depart."
That new tool "offers unlawfully present aliens or those aliens whose parole has been revoked an orderly and defined voluntary process to notify the U.S. Government of their intent to depart the United States," per the release.
In a statement to announce the release Acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores said, "CBP Home App strengthens our mission to secure the U.S. border by ensuring lawful entry for travelers and supporting effective enforcement."
"The app provides illegal aliens in the United States with a straightforward way to declare their intent to voluntarily depart, offering them the chance to leave before facing harsher consequences," he added. "This reinforces our commitment to enforcing U.S. laws and safeguarding national security."
The CBP-Home app, which is available to be downloaded and used for free, also allows would-be legal migrants to apply and pre-pay for an I-94 form ahead of their arrival, and to check wait times at border crossing facilities. It also allows bus operators to pre-submit a passenger manifest and for truck drivers to schedule appointments for the inspection of perishable goods being brought into the country.
Leave now and you may be able to return later ...
The relaunch of the CBP mobile app was also heralded by DHS Sec. Kristi Noem in a post to her official X account on Monday.
"The Biden Administration exploited the CBP One App to allow more than 1 million aliens to illegally enter the United States," Noem wrote. "With the launching of the CBP Home App, we are restoring integrity to our immigration system."
"The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream," the secretary added. "If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return."
