As it stands, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is currently heading up NASA, but SpaceX founder Elon Musk doesn't like that idea, calling for someone with what he believes has a higher IQ to head the space agency.

According to the Daily Mail, Musk's close friend Jared Isaacman was originally slotted for the job, having been selected by President Donald Trump. However, when Musk and Trump had a falling out, the offer was rescinded.

Now, it looks as though the president has changed his mind, as Trump is now publicly backing Isaacman for the important position, while noting in Truth Social post that he's proud of the job done by Duffy, so far.

For his part, Musk had blasted Duffy in several X posts recently, even going as far as saying that NASA simply cannot be run by someone with a "two-digit IQ."

What's going on?

"The person responsible for America's space program can't have a two-digit IQ,' Musk wrote on X in October. In a follow-up post, Musk wrote, "Sean Dummy is trying to kill NASA!"

Earlier this week, President Trump seemed to disagree with Musk, as he wrote a glowing post about Duffy's work so far, but added that it's time for the agency to be run by Isaacman, who definitely has the resume to take the job.

"This evening, I am pleased to nominate Jared Isaacman, an accomplished business leader, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut, as Administrator of NASA," Trump wrote.

The president added, "Jared's passion for Space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new Space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new Era."

Though he already holds a Cabinet position, Duffy reportedly was fond of also running NASA and reportedly wanted to keep the job permanently.

At one point, he had even suggested rolling the space agency into the fold of the Transportation Department.

Isaacman responds

Isaacman, in an X post, thanked the president for the vote of confidence and also thanked Duffy for how he's handled the agency so far.

"It will be an honor to serve my country under your leadership,' he wrote. 'I am also very grateful to @SecDuffy, who skillfully oversees @NASA alongside his many other responsibilities," Isaacman wrote.

"I am not sure how I earned the trust of so many, but I will do everything I can to live up to those expectations," he continued.

It'll be interesting to see what NASA accomplishes under such an experienced leader in the space industry.
