President Donald Trump aims to Make America Great Again in all of its many facets, including the arts and culture, which prompted his takeover in February of the prestigious Kennedy Center in February.

Trump's "common sense" effort to revitalize the "dying arts" at the Center has proven successful thus far, as indicated by interim Executive Director Ric Grenell, in an interview with the Daily Caller.

That has occurred in large part because Trump has emphasized making the Kennedy Center a nonpartisan "place for everyone" to enjoy, as opposed to the hyper-liberal institution it once was.

Trump took over the Kennedy Center

In February, just a couple of weeks after taking office, President Trump posted on Truth Social, "At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN. I have decided to immediately terminate multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture."

"We will soon announce a new Board, with an amazing Chairman, DONALD J. TRUMP!" he continued. "Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth -- THIS WILL STOP."

"The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation," the president added. "For the Kennedy Center, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"

Just a few days later, in a separate post, Trump announced, "I am pleased to announce that Ric Grenell will serve as the Interim Executive Director of The Kennedy Center."

"Ric shares my Vision for a GOLDEN AGE of American Arts and Culture, and will be overseeing the daily operations of the Center," he added. "NO MORE DRAG SHOWS, OR OTHER ANTI-AMERICAN PROPAGANDA -- ONLY THE BEST. RIC, WELCOME TO SHOW BUSINESS!"

Kennedy Center is now a "place for everyone"

On Friday, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Caller, Grenell said, "We want everyone to come to the Kennedy Center regardless of who you voted for. This is a place for everyone."

"And since I’ve arrived, we haven’t canceled a single show," he revealed. "We have just simply demanded that if you can’t sell enough seats with your production and you can’t find a sponsor to cover the cost, that then you’re on the hook. We just can’t have productions where we’re losing money."

Grenell referenced a recent "very important story" published by The New York Times about the serious "trouble" Broadway musicals were facing, which noted that all of the 18 musicals that opened on Broadway over the past year, some of which have budgets in the tens of millions, have faced issues and failed to turn a profit so far.

"Broadway is struggling. Shows close very fast. Productions are losing money. People aren’t coming out to see these shows," Grenell said of The Times' article. "And we want to change that."

Trump is revitalizing the "dying arts" in America

"President Trump was very keen to confront this issue of dying arts. And what he wanted to do is to do big common sense productions that fill the audience," Grenell told the Daily Caller. "We’ve been selling out through 'Les [Misérables]' and through 'The Sound of Music' regularly, and this is exactly what I think the arts need."

The apparent success of the Kennedy Center this year has been achieved, in part, by eschewing highly partisan productions to instead focus on performances with broad appeal, not to mention the fact that the Center cut ties in May with the Actors’ Equity Association union, which previously only allowed union-bound productions to perform and hindered the Center's ability to compete with other theaters in the D.C. area.
