Trump says he has 'left instructions' to 'obliterate' Iran's regime if it assassinates him
This past November, federal prosecutors accused 51-year-old Farhad Shakeri of plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump on behalf of Iran's notorious Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
However, Trump recently made clear that the Iranian regime will face obliteration if they ever succeed at taking his life.
Trump threatens "total obliteration"
According to the Daily Mail, Trump made the comment while speaking with reporters at the White House on Tuesday, saying, "If they did that, they would be obliterated."
"I have left instructions. If they do it, they get obliterated, there won't be anything left," the president went on to declare.
Daily Mail noted how when asked to elaborate on his remarks, Trump said that U.S. retaliation for his death "would be called total obliteration," stressing, "I can't imagine they would do that."
What's more, Trump also took aim at his predecessor, complaining, "And Biden should have said that, but he never did. I don't know why. Lack of intelligence perhaps? But he never said it."
Trump's statement came shortly after he signed an executive order allowing the use of "maximum pressure" in preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Assassination plot said to be revenge for 2020 airstrike
In its November press release, the Department of Justice (DOJ) alleged that the plot to assassinate Trump was devised to avenge Qasem Soleimani.
Soleimani, who commanded the IRGC's elite terrorist Qods Force, was killed at Trump's direction four years ago by a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad.
Damian Williams serves as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and he said the attempt to go after Trump was part of a larger agenda.
"Actors directed by the Government of Iran continue to target our citizens, including President-elect Trump, on U.S. soil and abroad. This has to stop," Williams said.
DOJ "will stop at nothing" in working against terrorism
"Today's charges are another message to those who continue in their efforts – we will remain unrelenting in our pursuit of bad actors, no matter where they reside, and will stop at nothing to bring to justice those who harm our safety and security," he added.

Then-Attorney General Merrick Garland echoed those sentiments, asserting, "We will not stand for the Iranian regime's attempts to endanger the American people and America’s national security."
