Trump says he's not a conservative, he just has common sense

Former President Donald Trump said on Monday on CNBC's Squawk Box that he is not a conservative, which could lead to an unconventional choice for his vice presidential candidate in a few months.

"People say, 'you're conservative,' I'm not conservative, you know what I am, I'm a man of common sense and a lot of conservative policies are common sense," Trump said in a clear bid for independent and Democrat voters unhappy with the incumbent.

As an example, he cited the border situation and said that under his leadership, "We're not going to have open borders."

"Getting even"

Trump was responding to comments by billionaire and Republican donor Ken Langone--not a Trump supporter--saying if Trump wins in 2024, it will turn into four years of "getting even."

While saying he wasn't a fan of Langone, Trump said, "He's right in one sense."

"People think that there's going to be revenge and I say, 'no the revenge is going to be success,'" Trump said. "We're gonna turn our country around, we're gonna bring sense and common sense."

"Never abuse power"

He told Sean Hannity during a town hall in December that he would never "abuse power as retribution against anybody."

He did say he would use executive power (he called it being a dictator) to fix border policies and set up increases in oil drilling on his first day in office.

"I'm not going to have time for retribution," he said.

Who's the real autocrat?

Democrats constantly paint Trump as an autocrat who is going to ruin democracy, completely ignoring facts that show President Joe Biden has used executive orders in much more autocratic ways as president than Trump ever did.

His executive orders have been slapped down by the courts repeatedly--think student loan forgiveness, gun restrictions, and immigration, just for starters.

There are a number of other executive orders currently being challenged in the courts, showing the extent of Biden's overreach.

He's projecting

History will show whether Americans had anything to fear from Trump, or whether Biden's proclamations that Trump is a threat to democracy are anything other than a projection of what he himself has been doing all along.

Biden doesn't deserve another term, and he's trying to hide that fact by accusing Trump.
