Former President Donald Trump says that he believes that Nikki Haley will be "on our team," ABC News reports

It is clear that Trump was referring to the Republican team and perhaps even his next administration, as the country inches closer to the 2024 presidential election.

It is also clear that Trump did not mean that Haley would be his running mate. Trump, in fact, recently stated that "Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot."

Many have argued that Haley would be a good running mate for Trump because she could help to secure votes that Trump otherwise might not get in the 2024 election. But, apparently, Trump does not agree with this line of reasoning.

Background

Trump made the remark - that he believes Haley will be "on our team" - after Haley, after many months of silence, finally decided to endorse Trump over President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election.

Haley made the announcement during an event at the Hudson Institute.

"As a voter, I put my priorities on a president who is going to have the backs of our allies and hold our enemies to account, who would secure the border -- no more excuses. A president who would support capitalism and freedom, a president who understands we need less debt, not more debt," she said.

Haley continued, "Trump has not been perfect on these policies, I have made that clear many times, but Biden has been a catastrophe. So I will be voting for Trump."

Haley, though, added, "Having said that, I stand by what I said in my suspension speech. Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me, and not assume that they're just going to be with him. And I genuinely hope he does that."

Trump responds

Oftentimes, when Trump receives such an endorsement, he quickly releases a message thanking the individual for their support. Trump, however, waited a bit before responding to the Haley endorsement.

He finally commented on it during the rally that he held on Thursday.

"I appreciated what she said," Trump said.

He added, "Well, I think she's gonna be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts. You know, we had a nasty campaign; it was pretty nasty. But she's a very capable person, and I'm sure she's going to be on our team in some form. Absolutely."

Trump did not elaborate on what he meant by "she's going to be on our team," so, for now, it's up for speculation.
