Trump says this is his last presidential run
According to former President Donald Trump, the 2024 presidential election will be his last attempt at getting back into the White House.
In other words, should he lose in this election, Trump will not seek reelection in 2028.
The New York Post reports that Trump made the statement during an interview on Sunday on Full Measure, with television host Sharyl Attkisson.
What Trump had to say there was a big surprise to many, including his supporters.
"That will be it."
During the interview, Attkisson asked Trump would the future holds should he lose the 2024 presidential election, including whether he would look to make another run at the presidency in 2028.
Trump said that he would not.
"No, I don’t. I think … that will be it. I don’t see that at all. Hopefully, we’re gonna be successful," the former president said.
Trump did not go into detail about why it is that he would not make another run at the White House.
Some have suggested that age has something to do with it. Age has certainly been a big factor in the 2024 presidential election, with Joe Biden, at 81 years old, being the oldest president ever. Trump, were he to run in 2028, would be 82, according to The Hill.
It's anyone's guess
Perhaps, though, age has nothing to do with it. After all, Trump, who is now 78 years old, is clearly in pretty good shape, and there is no reason to think he is going to go downhill significantly in the next four years.
Instead, perhaps Trump is sick and tired of the constant attacks from the political left that he has been the victim of ever since he entered the presidential race in 2016.
The bottom line, though, is that, at the time of this writing, we do not know why Trump would not seek reelection again in 2028, because he has yet to explain this. Until he does, it is anyone's guess.
It is also anyone's guess, at the moment, what is going to happen in the 2024 presidential election. On average, polls, according to Real Clear Politics, have Vice President Kamala Harris leading Trump by about two percentage points. Other pollsters, however, are predicting that Trump is going to dominate the Electoral College.
Time will tell whether the pollsters are correct about any of this, or whether they are way off base - as they have been in the past. We are now at about the six-week mark until Nov. 5, 2024.
