As trade negotiations continue between the United States and China, President Donald Trump shared bombshell news this week regarding the fate of TikTok, the wildly popular app that has been nearly banned several times in the U.S.

According to Fox Business, in a Truth Social post, President Trump hinted that the "framework" of a deal to allow TikTok to continue operating in the U.S. has been reached with China, and will ultimately be revealed after Trump speaks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Without additional presidential intervention, the app was set to cease operations in the United States as soon as Wednesday.

Trump has used his executive power to keep the app alive in the U.S. in the wake of a bill passed by Congress last year that would have shut it down, short of the company being willing to sell it to a U.S. company to avoid fears of Chinese data mining and spying.

What's going on?

Reportedly, Trump will hold a phone call with President Xi on Friday to finalize the deal.

Fox Business noted:

President Donald Trump is planning to hold a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday to finalize the deal.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that there may be a short extension of the Sept. 17 deadline, while Bessent added that "It would not have been extended without a framework."

According to U.S. officials, China had reportedly sought trade concessions from the Trump administration as part of a deal to divest in TikTok.

"Our Chinese counterparts have come with a very aggressive ask," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, adding, "We are not willing to sacrifice national security for a social media app."

This week, President Trump cheerfully announced that a deal had been reached with China regarding the app.

"The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly," he wrote.

"A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday," Trump added. "The relationship remains a very strong one!!!"
