Trump scuttles California's EV mandate in blow to Musk
A public feud has played out over the past several weeks between President Donald Trump and former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk.
While there are signs that the conflict is cooling down, that may change after Trump ended a policy which Musk stood to benefit from.
"Now we know why Elon doesn't like me so much"
According to the Daily Mail, Trump signed a resolution on Thursday which blocks California's mandate that only electric cars be sold in the state after 2035.
"Now we know why Elon doesn't like me so much. Which he does actually, he does," the president was quoted as saying in reference to Musk.
Musk is cofounder and CEO of Tesla, the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer, and the Daily Mail noted how California's mandate "could have been a boon" for the company.
Trump went on to remark that it was "very interesting" that Musk opted to support him during last year's campaign despite knowing his stance on electric vehicle mandates.

"And Elon still endorsed me. And honestly, he never spoke to me about that. And I used to say I'm amazed that he's endorsing me because it can't be good for him," the president recalled.
"He said, 'well, as long as it's happening to everybody, I'll be able to compete,'" Trump explained, saying he found Musk's answer to be "very honest." However, Trump remarked that Musk later "got a little bit strange."
The Daily Mail observed that the president also went after his Oval Office predecessor along with California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who he referred to as "Newscum."
"Under the previous administration, the federal government gave left-wing radicals in California dictatorial powers to control the future of the entire car industry all over the country - all over the world," Trump complained.
Musk extends olive branch
"Think of this, you can't buy any other car except an electric powered car, and in California they have blackouts and brownouts. They don't have enough electricity right now," he added.
For his part, there are indications that Musk is looking to make amends with the president following their earlier dispute.
Fox News reported that Musk reacted positively on social media to a clip of Trump wishing him "very well" and also showed support for the president's handling of anti-ICE riots.
