Melania Trump was present this past May when her husband signed the Take It Down Act, a piece of legislation which outlaws posting sexual images of someone without his or her consent.

The first lady turned up once again on Thursday as President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at helping children in foster care.

Order to help children transition to adulthood

According to Breitbart, the order is titled "Fostering the Future for American Children and Families" and it seeks to assist foster children transition to adulthood.

This is to be accomplished via public-private partnerships along with the Fostering the Future program, which will launch an online platform.

It will be designed to help those who are currently or were previously in the foster system develop plans for attaining self-sufficiency in adulthood.

What's more, the order reallocates "underutilized Federal funds to promote educational success, career advancement, financial literacy, and self-sufficiency."

President points to scripture during signing ceremony

"The Bible tells us that one of the measures of any society is how it cares for vulnerable children and orphans," the president was quoted as saying.

"So as we make America great again, we are going to protect American children in foster care, and we’re going to ensure that they will never, ever be forgotten. … They’re going to grow up to be unbelievable, strong, smart, wealthy, productive citizens," he declared.

Mrs. Trump spoke up as well, stating, "I predict this small spark today will ignite a profound and lasting nationwide movement. Our united resolve will foster a thriving future filled with compassion and innovation."

"Together, we will illuminate the pathway for today’s foster children to become tomorrow’s builders, and tomorrow’s builders will foster the future of America’s legacy," she added.

Sizable need identified

The first lady echoed those thoughts in a social media post on Thursday, explaining that the executive order gives her "tremendous pride," calling it "empathetic and strategic."

The Department of Education estimates that there are roughly 400,000 children in the foster care system at any given time.

Of that figure, approximately 20,000 individuals are thought to emancipate (i.e., age out) of the system on an annual basis.
