Former President Donald Trump swiftly responded to President Joe Biden's recent remarks about his memory during an appearance on a late-night show, refuting any insinuations of cognitive decline and accusing Democrats of spreading misinformation.

In a video posted on Wednesday, Trump addressed Biden's comments, clarifying a recent incident at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where he playfully referred to Mercedes Schlapp, wife of Matt Schlapp, as "the first lady" in jest after observing the audience's enthusiastic reaction to mentioning Melania Trump's name.

Trump's response

Trump explained that Biden's criticism stemmed from a misunderstanding of the situation, emphasizing that his mental acuity remained intact.

Dismissing suggestions about his cognitive health, Trump challenged Biden to take a cognitive test, asserting that he had successfully completed two such tests without errors.

He condemned what he perceived as Democrats' attempts to discredit him due to their lack of confidence in their own candidate.

“Crooked Joe Biden must take a Cognitive Test. Maybe that way we would be able to find out why he makes such terrible decisions," Trump also wrote in a post on Social Truth.

“I took two of them, and ACED them both (no mistakes!). All Presidents, or people wanting to become President, should mandatorily take this test!” he added.

Biden's comments

Biden's comments came during an interview with late-night host Seth Meyers, where he addressed concerns about his age and cognitive ability raised by some American voters.

Biden pointed to Trump's own gaffes, such as the incident at CPAC, as evidence of cognitive decline. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the future and contrasted his progressive agenda with what he perceived as Trump's regressive policies.

Biden highlighted his administration's accomplishments, stressing the need to move forward rather than backward. He characterized Trump's proposed policies as outdated and incompatible with the progress achieved during his presidency.

The ongoing battle

Overall, Trump's response to Biden's comments and Biden's subsequent remarks underscored the ongoing political rivalry between the two figures and their differing visions for the future of America.

The exchange highlighted the contentious nature of their relationship and the intensity of the political discourse surrounding issues of age and cognitive fitness.

The back-and-forth between Trump and Biden served as a reminder of the sharp divide in American politics and the constant scrutiny faced by public figures.

As both Trump and Biden continue to wield influence within their respective parties, their verbal sparring reflects broader debates about leadership, competence and the direction of the country.
