Former President Donald Trump's words on stage took on even more significance following his assassination attempt, and that held true through the Republican National Convention last week.

According to recent data, the network, which is already on top of cable news providers, has broken their own records airing the iconic speaker's comments to the crowd, as The New York Post reported.

According to Nielsen ratings, Fox News outperformed its cable channel competitors in terms of primetime viewership during the Republican National Convention, setting a record for former President Donald Trump's keynote address on Thursday.

The Details

The Republican nominee addressed the public for the first time since surviving an assassin's gunshot in Pennsylvania last weekend by taking the stage in Milwaukee at 10 p.m. local time.

The right-leaning channel attracted 10 million viewers during this time.

The 92-minute speech by Trump had the largest viewership for a single night of convention coverage in cable news history, according to Fox.

On average, 9 million people tuned in to see the network's primetime block, with 1.6 million falling into the crucial 25-54 age bracket, according to Fox, who cited Nielsen numbers.

The Competitors

During Trump's speech, CNN, on the other hand, only had 2.1 million viewers, which is a quarter of the number that Fox had.

However, according to the data provided by Nielsen, it was still able to surpass MSNBC, which attracted 1.2 million people during the same time slot.

Even so, those networks pulled a bit of a fast one and have faced pushback for making it appear that their major hosts were at the event while they were, in fact, back at their normal home bases.

By having its top anchors, such as Rachel Maddow and Jen Psaki, cover the four-day convention from the network's headquarters in Manhattan while using a massive LED screen that gave the impression that they were broadcasting from Milwaukee's Fiserv Arena.

The Speech

According to a prior story by The Post, President Trump "tore up" a speech that had been planned for him and instead chose to deliver his own "personal" speech on the final night of the Republican Party gathering.

A little over forty-eight hours after being shot in the ear during a rally in Butler Township on the previous Saturday, he boarded a plane to travel to the convention.

The first night of coverage on Fox News, which was highlighted by Trump's dramatic appearance with a bandaged ear, averaged more than 6.9 million viewers during the 10 o'clock hour.
