Trump starts laying federal workers off amid government shutdown
President Donald Trump and his administration have begun to fire federal government employees.
This comes, according to The Hill, amid the ongoing government shutdown.
The firings are not unexpected, as Trump repeatedly said that this would likely happen if the government shutdown continues, and it has, with Democrats blocking the latest attempt to reopen the government before the weekend.

4,000+ gone already
Outlets are reporting that the Trump administration has already terminated upwards of 4,000 federal government employees.
The Hill reports:
The Trump administration laid off more than 4,100 employees Friday amid the ongoing government shutdown . . . Various agencies have since confirmed the layoffs . . .
As usual, the firings were immediately challenged in court, so we are going to have to see how the case plays out. But, in the meantime, the court filings have given the American public an overview of just how many individuals the Trump administration is trying to terminate.
The Hill reports:
The most significant layoffs took place at the Treasury Department, with 1,446 employees receiving RIF notices Friday. The Department of Health and Human Services also saw major cutbacks, with roughly 1,100 to 1,200 employees affected, the filing states. Friday’s RIFs also impacted approximately 466 Education Department employees, 442 Department of Housing and Urban Development employees, 315 Commerce Department employees, 187 Energy Department employees and 176 Department of Homeland Security employees.
The total figure is said to be around 4,100.
Just getting started?
Last week, in the Oval Office, Trump made it clear that layoffs were on the table if the government shutdown continues.
“If this keeps going on, it will be substantial, And a lot of those jobs will never come back," the president said.
Russ Vought, Trump budget chief, on Friday, took to social media, where he wrote, "The RIFs have begun." "RIF," stands for "Reduction in Force." What this suggests, of course, is that more "RIFs" are on the way.
The Daily Caller notes:
Before the Oct. 1 shutdown deadline, OMB directed agencies to draft reduction-in-force plans for individuals employed in programs that have no current funding source nor align with the president’s agenda.
We will have to see just how far Trump is willing to go with these "RIFs." The other big question will be how far the courts let Trump go.
