Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham was booed as he promoted former President Donald Trump at a rally near his hometown in Pickens, South Carolina, Saturday.

Graham emphasized bringing the party together around Trump as the GOP presidential nominee.

Graham's comments

"My hope is we can bring this party together 'cause he's gonna be our nominee," Graham told those in attendance.

"He will be the nominee of the Republican Party, and let me tell you what's at stake. If they win in 2024, they're gonna pack the Supreme Court. So we need to get off our butts and make sure Donald Trump wins. If they win in 2024… Puerto Rico and D.C. will be states. Four Democrats for the rest of our lifetime. They'll abolish the electoral college, they will turn this nation upside down," he added.

The background

"Trump remains hugely popular in rural areas like Pickens, in the northwest corner of the state, which will conduct the South’s first presidential primary next year — with two South Carolina Republicans, former Gov. Nikki Haley, and Sen. Tim Scott, on the ballot as well," the New York Post reported.

"Graham, an on-again, off-again Trump ally, begged his own donors to give cash to Trump in the wake of his April indictment by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg — but his past criticism of Trump’s policies and demeanor continues to rankle the former president’s most devoted supporters," it added.

Trump but not you

A video of the incident appeared to show locals supporting Trump but opposing Graham.

“We like Trump!” Graham says, to which a man yells, “But not you!”

The latest twist adds to controversy in South Carolina among conservatives as Trump faces two opponents running for president in the state.

Neither Scott nor Haley were in attendance at the event where Lindsey appeared to switch back to full Trump mode against the angry audience.

The rowdy crowd shows that small towns in South Carolina continue to have strong views about Trump despite bias in mainstream media.
