President-elect Donald Trump has had no shortage of problems with the Department of Justice (DOJ), including two federal prosecutions.

Yet in a bombshell move which is sure to leave Democrats seething, the president-elect recently announced that a longtime ally will begin working there.

Trump taps Harmeet Dhillon to head up civil rights division

According to Breitbart, Trump revealed in a lengthy social media post this week that lawyer Harmeet Dhillon is being hired as the DOJ's assistant attorney general for civil rights.

"I am pleased to nominate Harmeet K. Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice," Trump wrote on Monday.

"Throughout her career, Harmeet has stood up consistently to protect our cherished Civil Liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring our Free Speech, representing Christians who were prevented from paying together during COVID, and suing corporations who use woke policies to discriminate against their workers," he stressed.

"Harmeet is one of the top Election lawyers in the Country, fighting to ensure that all, and ONLY, legal votes are counted," the president-elect continued.

He pointed out that Dhillon "is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School, and clerked in the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals."

Dhillon: "It has been my dream to be able to serve our great country"

Trump concluded by stating, "Harmeet is a respected member of the Sikh religious community. In her new role at the DOJ, Harmeet will be a tireless defender of our Constitutional Rights, and will enforce our Civil Rights and Election Laws FAIRLY and FIRMLY."

Breitbart observed that Dhillon expressed gratitude for Trump's announcement in a social media post of her own, writing, "I'm extremely honored by President Trump’s nomination to assist with our nation’s civil rights agenda."

"It has been my dream to be able to serve our great country, and I am so excited to be part of an incredible team of lawyers led by [Pam Bondi]," she added.

Dhillon founded a conservative nonprofit group

Dhillon then went on to emphasize that she "would not be here today without my amazing mother and brother's support, and my beloved father Tejpal and husband Sarv, who did not live to see this day."

Politico noted that in addition to founding her own law firm, Dhillon also created a nonprofit organization called the Center for American Liberty.

She also launched an unsuccessful campaign last year to replace  Ronna McDaniel as head of the Republican National Committee.
