Trump tells GOP senators to block confirmation of Biden's judicial nominees

Despite being set to leave the White House in less than two months, President Joe Biden still has a slew of judicial nominees who are awaiting confirmation.

In response, President-elect Donald Trump has called on Senate Republicans to end any hope that they will sit on the bench.

Trump: "No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!"

According to Breitbart, Trump made his thoughts known in a post to Truth Social, stating, "The Democrats are trying to stack the Courts with Radical Left Judges on their way out the door. Republican Senators need to Show Up and Hold the Line — No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!"

Breitbart noted that the president-elect's remarks came after Senate Democrats voted to confirm a controversial figure and several others on Monday when several Republicans were absent.

Of particular concern for conservatives was U.S. Magistrate Judge Embry Kidd's confirmation to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Reuters recalled how during Kidd's confirmation hearing earlier this year, Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee brought up a 2007 article written by Yale Law School professor Monica Bell.

Article suggested that child rape laws are racist

In the piece, Bell examined state statues which allowed those convicted of child rape to be executed, writing, "Child rape statutes, though not laden with the exact same racial baggage as more general rape statutes, are still racialized."

Lee pointed out how Bell, who was a classmate of Kidd at Yale, made a point of mentioning the judge in her article's acknowledgements.

Trump was not alone in demanding action from Republican senators, as Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis did so as well.

The website Florida Politics reported that a total of five Republican senators were absent for the vote on Kidd, thus allowing his confirmation to proceed.

Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance among the no-shows

Among them were Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who Trump has picked to head the State Department as well as Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, who represents Ohio.

Conservative commentator Matt Whitlock also voiced frustration, complaining that Kidd "has a lifetime judgeship– instead of a Trump nominee – because Republicans didn’t bother to show up."

Meanwhile, Newsweek observed that although Republicans lack sufficient numbers to stop a nominee from being confirmed outright, they can cause delays via procedural tactics.
