While speaking on Sunday, President Trump suggested that elected officials in the state of California might be subject to federal charges for interfering with the deportation operation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"Officials who stand in the way of law and order, yeah, they will face judges," Trump told reporters when addressing the Los Angeles riots that have gotten fully out of control, as Just The News reported.

According to Tom Homan, the border czar, local or state officials who block Immigration and Customs Enforcement are subject to arrest.

“It’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s a felony to impede law enforcement from doing their job,” he said.

Deploying guard

On Sunday morning, following Saturday's protest activities against ICE raids, the California National Guard landed in Los Angeles.

Members of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, a unit of the National Guard, are stationed there to ensure the safety of federal buildings and other nearby government installations.

Members of the National Guard will also assist with crowd management, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

From DHS head

"These 2000 National Guard soldiers that are being engaged today are ones that are specifically trained for this type of crowd situation, where they'll be with the public and be able to provide safety around buildings and to those that are engaged in peaceful protests, and also to our law enforcement officers so they can continue their daily work," Noem said on CBS News' "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

A video of the National Guard arriving in the downtown area of Los Angeles has been uploaded by local news, with photographs showing members of the National Guard stationed in the Metropolitan Detention Center.

As of late afternoon on Sunday, there is a demonstration taking place in the central business district of Los Angeles.

Suit against Trump

The Trump administration's deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles to quiet the rioting in response to ICE apprehensions of illegal immigrants was the subject of a lawsuit announced on Monday by California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Trump federalized the National Guard, citing the need to "address the lawlessness," even though California Governor Gavin Newsom did not ask for the deployment.

The deployment was deemed a "unlawful action" by Bonta.

“We only bring cases we believe we will win based on the law and the facts and our analysis,” he added. “We wouldn’t bring this one if we weren’t confident of our success.”
