One of President Donald Trump's longtime objectives has been to address the trade imbalance that America has with other countries.

The president got closer to achieving that goal this week when he announced a new deal which had been struck with Indonesia.

Trump had threatened to impose a 32% tariff on Indonesian goods

According to Breitbart, Trump revealed the news on Monday morning in a post to his Truth Social platform, "Great deal, for everybody, just made with Indonesia."

"I dealt directly with their highly respected President," Trump continued before going on to add that further details would be forthcoming.

Breitbart noted how the president's statement came just over a week after he unveiled a 32% tariff on Indonesian goods that was set to take effect on August 1.

Indonesia was not the only country that was facing such tariffs, as Trump also sent letters to the heads of roughly two dozen other nations as well.

Trump pledges to "just keep working" towards more trade deals

The president briefly spoke with Breitbart at the White House late last week just before he left to visit flash flood victims in Texas.

"I think just keep working hard," Trump said of his plan to secure new trade agreements with the countries he has threatened with tariffs.

"We’ve been taken advantage of for many, many years by countries, both friends and foe, and frankly, the friends have been worse than the foes in many cases. So I would say, just keep working. It’s all going to work out," he predicted.

CNN reported that additional details concerning the trade agreement emerged on Tuesday, including that Indonesian products would be subject to a 19% tariff.

Indonesia agrees to purchase American aircraft and agricultural products

The cable network noted that Trump wrote on Truth Social that Indonesia had committed to purchasing "$15 Billion Dollars in U.S. Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets, many of them 777’s."

Hasan Nasbi serves as a spokesperson for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and he told Reuters that the trade agreement came from an "extraordinary struggle."

"This is an extraordinary struggle by our negotiating team led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs," Nasbi asserted to the news service.
