Trump signs trio of orders unlocking potential of nuclear energy production
President Donald Trump is no huge fan of supposed "green" and "renewable" forms of energy like solar and wind, but he is open to at least one major alternative energy source to so-called "fossil fuels" like oil and natural gas.
On Friday, Trump signed a trio of energy production-related executive orders that are intended to "usher in a nuclear renaissance" for the United States, Breitbart reported.
Trump's embrace of nuclear energy is part of his broader push to ensure the U.S. is not just energy independent, in terms of producing domestically all that the nation needs, but dominant over the rest of the globe.
Trump's orders on nuclear energy
In a Friday evening Truth Social post, President Trump shared links to three executive orders he'd signed earlier in the day that, according to an attached White House photo, would "usher in a nuclear renaissance" for U.S. domestic energy production.
The first of those orders was titled "Reforming Nuclear Reactor Testing at the Department of Energy," and it stated that the Trump administration's policy in that regard was to "foster nuclear innovation and bring advanced nuclear technologies into domestic production as soon as possible."
The second order, titled "Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission," was aimed at overhauling the "structure, personnel, regulations, and basic operations" of the NRC, such that it would help to "produce lasting American dominance in the global nuclear energy market, create tens of thousands of high-paying jobs, and generate American-led prosperity and resilience."
The third order dealt with "Reinvigorating the Nuclear Industrial Base," in that U.S. policy going forward would be to "expedite and promote to the fullest possible extent the production and operation of nuclear energy to provide affordable, reliable, safe, and secure energy to the American people, to power advanced nuclear reactor technologies.
That third order also aimed to "build associated supply chains that secure our global industrial and digital dominance, achieve our energy independence, protect our national security, and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of nuclear fuel through recycling, reprocessing, and reinvigorating the commercial sector."
Energy secretary is fully onboard
Perhaps unsurprisingly, President Trump's nuclear energy-themed executive orders were fully supported and promoted by Energy Secretary Doug Burgum, who was present as the orders were signed in the Oval Office and later shared a video of the White House event on his X account.
"Nuclear energy technology is safer, more efficient, and more advanced than ever before," the secretary wrote. "@POTUS’ Executive Orders reinforce America’s Energy Dominance agenda -- promoting dependable power and a future rooted in strength at home and leadership abroad."
Burgum, as the head of the Energy Department, was frequently referenced in the trio of orders and will play a major role going forward in implementing and administering the new policies as laid out by the president.
Unleashing nuclear energy a key to Trump's agenda
A critical component of President Trump's agenda to put "America First" and to "Make America Great Again" on the global stage is to ensure that the U.S. produces sufficient energy domestically to be not only independent of foreign energy producers but also to dominate the global markets with U.S.-produced energy.
To be sure, a big part of that will be achieved by Trump's numerous other orders pertaining to increased domestic production of oil and natural gas as well as enabling and promoting technological advancements and innovations in production, refinement, and distribution.
That said, Trump has not forgotten about or ignored the massive potential of nuclear energy to place the U.S. head and shoulders above competitor and rival nations, and his executive orders on Friday will go a long way toward unleashing that potential for future generations.
