Trump vows to invalidate Biden's autopen-signed documents

Hold onto your pens, folks—former President Donald Trump just dropped a bombshell that could rewrite the paperwork of the Biden era.

In a fiery announcement on Truth Social last Friday, Trump declared his intention to nullify all documents supposedly signed by President Joe Biden using an autopen, claiming these signatures lack proper authorization and rendering countless executive orders and other acts invalid.

This isn’t just a petty quibble over penmanship; it’s a full-on challenge to the legitimacy of Biden’s presidential record.

Trump Targets Autopen Signatures with Fury

Trump’s latest move zeroes in on a staggering claim: 92% of documents from Biden’s tenure were signed not by hand, but by an autopen—a device that mimics a person’s signature with eerie precision using a real pen and a template.

He argues that this tool, while used by the U.S. government since the Truman days, requires explicit presidential approval to be legally binding—a condition he insists Biden never met.

With 162 executive orders and hundreds of memoranda, proclamations, and notices issued during Biden’s time in office, the potential scope of this purge is nothing short of staggering.

Legal Grounds or Political Theater?

The Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel has long held that autopen use is legal for presidential signatures on legislation and executive acts, provided the president authorizes it.

Trump, however, isn’t buying it, alleging that Biden had no involvement in approving these signatures and even threatening perjury charges if Biden dares to claim otherwise—a legal jab that’s as sharp as it is speculative.

One has to wonder if this is about principle or just a way to undo policies Trump’s base has long despised.

Trump’s Bold Claims on Truth Social

In his own words on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States.”

That’s a direct shot across the bow, implying a systemic failure—or worse, deliberate misconduct—during Biden’s presidency. If true, it’s a scandal; if not, it’s a risky overreach that could muddy the waters of executive authority.

Trump doubled down, also stating on Truth Social, “The Radical Left Lunatics circling Biden around the beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office took the Presidency away from him.”

Which Policies Are at Stake?

Already, Trump has shown he’s not afraid to wield the eraser, having signed an executive order in January to rescind nearly 80 of Biden’s executive orders.

Still standing, for now, are measures like Executive Order 14087 on lowering prescription drug costs, Executive Order 14096 on environmental justice, and Executive Order 14110 concerning artificial intelligence development—policies that could be next on the chopping block if Trump’s autopen crusade holds water.

Yet, the question of who will verify the authenticity of Biden’s signatures remains unanswered, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over this bold maneuver.
