Trump warns SCOTUS about possible negative impact if it rules against tariff usage
President Donald Trump's usage of an emergency powers law to levy tariffs on multiple nations was immediately challenged in the legal system and will ultimately be decided at the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The high court has already heard oral arguments regarding the case, and will eventually issue a ruling that will have massive implications one way or another. According to Just The News, the president has warned that if he receives an adverse ruling, the U.S. economy will pay -- big time.
Trump said recently that the high court received the "wrong numbers" regarding the case, adding his warning that it'll be a multi-trillion dollar national security issue if the court doesn't side with him.
The crux of the issue is whether or not the president had the power to levy the tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act without further congressional approval.
What's happening?
In a bombshell Truth Social post earlier this week, the president warned that an undesirable SCOTUS outcome on the case could be nothing short of devastating for the United States.
"The U.S. Supreme Court was given the wrong numbers. The 'unwind' in the event of a negative decision on Tariffs, would be, including investments made, to be made, and return of funds, in excess of 3 Trillion Dollars," Trump wrote.
The president explained that it's simply impossible to unwind what's already been done without a severe, significant impace on the country and the future of the country.
He wrote, "It would not be possible to ever make up for that kind of a 'drubbing.' That would truly become an insurmountable National Security Event, and devastating to the future of our Country - Possibly non-sustainable!"
Fox Business reported:
A ruling against Trump could require the government to refund billions of dollars in duties collected since 2024, potentially reshaping U.S. trade policy and testing the limits of presidential economic authority.
The outlet added:
According to Treasury data reviewed by FOX Business, the U.S. collected more than $213 billion in tariff revenue through late September 2025, including record monthly totals of more than $31 billion in August and more than $31 billion in September. Earlier in the year, revenues ranged from $17.4 billion in April to $29 billion in July.
Social media weighs in
Users across social media shared their thoughts on what it would mean if SCOTUS goes against the president's use of tariffs and an "unwind" has to happen.

"The SCOTUS should NOT rule against the Presidents tariffs! We have witnessed what placing tariffs on countries that have screwed the US for years has done to give our Country for once the revenues it deserves while also breaking the stagnation of companies coming back to US! It would be Economic suicide for the SCOTUS to vote against tariffs!" one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Here is the thing, many past Presidents have instituted tariffs, so there is precedent already."
