Trump White House decor shakeup met with mixed reviews
President Donald Trump is far from a traditional president, something that has been demonstrated time and again.
Likely one of the most iconic motifs of the current president is his known affinity for unique style, which has been seen at his numerous real estate holdings, as Business Insider reported.
As it turns out, that has bled over into his second tenure at the White House, according to recent reports.
Changes have been taking place within the dwelling and the West Wing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and as with anything the president does, not everyone is in love with it.
The Changes
The opportunity to redesign the White House, with an emphasis on the Oval Office, falls upon each president of the United States.
Aesthetic preferences and political leanings are reflected in each president's decisions. The stark contrast between Trump's policies and those of former President Joe Biden is the clearest example of this.
Biden's fixtures in the Oval Office reflected either a more understated taste or a lack of capacity to direct major changes, while Trump's distinct taste reached almost every surface.
Trump decided to go big and go home with his gold decor spilling over the entire iconic office. Even though the golden curtains stayed put, he went so far as to alter the crown molding on the ceiling, which had been left bare, and is now adorned with gold.
More on Biden's style
While Biden's paintings were sparsely scattered about the Oval Office, Trump's are bountiful with images including a huge portrait of Ronald Reagan hanging prominently to Trump's left. Two ornate gold frames hold the images in what is a very on-brand choice for Trump.
The president's meeting area with foreign leaders, the fireplace, is a perfect example of how the differences stand out.
Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a progressive hero, was depicted centrally over the fireplace in Biden's take on the decor. Trump's displays a photo of former President and founding father George Washington, dressed in military gear.
While Biden's hearth was rather plain, with just foliage and five photographs, leaving the walls behind him empty.
Trump's Golden Touch
There are seven golden embellishments atop Trump's fireplace, which is currently sporting gold engravings. The sides are home to two golden ornaments and two doors. Seven portraits are now visible behind the fireplace.
The simple wood tables that Biden had holding busts at the sides of the fireplace have been replaced with ones more in line with Trump's style, and the bust of Robert F. Kennedy that Biden had, has been swapped out for one of Winston Churchill.
Behind Biden in the Oval Office were the American and presidential seal flags, which still can be seen, but all of the military branches' flags were added by Trump.
