The New York Times reported in January that former President Joe Biden extended former Vice President Kamala Harris' Secret Service protection the customary six-month period.

Yet a move which has left his MAGA base cheering, President Donald Trump has taken Harris' security detail away from her.

Withdrawal of security detail comes before Harris embarks on book tour

According to the Associated Press, several anonymous senior administration figures said that Trump's decision came late last week.

The news service noted how Harris is set to embark on an international tour in support of her new memoir titled, "107 Days." The tour will feature 15 stops, with visits to London and Toronto scheduled.

A White House source also told the Associated Press that a recent intelligence assessment found no credible threats to the former vice president's wellbeing.

The Los Angeles Times noted that Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was quick to slam Trump's revocation of Harris' security detail.

Bass pledges to work with California governor in protecting Harris

"This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more," Bass was quoted as saying in a statement.

"This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles," the Democratic mayor went on to add.

The Times stated that California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom will deploy California Highway Patrol officers on Harris behalf, although Newsom refused to confirm this.

"Our office does not comment on security arrangements," spokesperson Izzy Gordon told the newspaper. "The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses."

Trump withdrew Secret Service protection from Biden children in March

This is not the first time that Trump has generated headlines regarding the Secret Service, as in March he withdrew the agency's protection from his predecessor's adult children.

"We are aware of the President’s decision to terminate protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden," the Associated Press quoted the Secret Service as saying in a statement.

"The Secret Service will comply and is actively working with the protective details and the White House to ensure compliance as soon as possible," it added.

The Associated Press reported that 18 agents were assigned to Hunter Biden while he visited South Africa while another 13 agents were tasked with protecting his sister.
