Tom Homman, President Donald Trump's border czar, has referred U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

This is according to a new report from Just the News.

This comes, as we will see, after Ocasio-Cortez was caught trying to help illegal immigrants residing in America to avoid Trump's border crackdown.

To be clear, it remains to be seen whether the Trump administration will actually charge Ocasio-Cortez. This decision will be left up to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. But, Homman seemed to make it clear that Ocasio-Cortez is under investigation.

Background

In case you missed it, Ocasio-Cortez was recently caught trying to help illegal immigrants avoid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Fox News reports:

The office of Squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., hosted a live webinar on Wednesday advising migrants in her district about their rights if they come face to face with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents looking to deport them.

She, however, did more than just that.

Fox continues:

The "Know Your Rights With ICE" virtual event was broadcast live on Ocasio-Cortez’s Facebook page, where migrant viewers were informed of how to deal with ICE search requests if officers come calling to their homes or place of work. Migrants were also warned of "ruses" they allege ICE agents employ to get people to comply with searches, while the hosts also touted "trends" in how ICE conducts its searches, which have ramped up in recent weeks under the Trump administration. People were also recommended to record such searches and how to differentiate between different warrants ICE agents are likely to carry.

The question, now, is whether Ocasio-Cortez crossed the line - whether she did anything illegal.

"Further guidance needed"

Homman spoke about the situation on Thursday, during an appearance on the Fox News Channel.

There, he said:

Is she crossing the line? So I'm working with the Department of Justice and finding out, where is that line that they crossed?

Homman went on to say that he is working to determine the answer to this question.

He said:

So maybe AOC is going to be in trouble now, but I need the AOG to opine on that, because there's an impediment, it's impediment in my opinion, I'm not a prosecutor, but we need some further guidance on that."

By referring to an "impediment," Homman seems to be suggesting that Ocasio-Cortez may be interfering with the government's ability to investigate and arrest criminals, which could be obstruction of justice. We'll have to see how the Trump administration decides to proceed with the situation.
