Trump's chief of staff orders incoming Cabinet members to cease posting on social media

President-elect Donald Trump and his chief of staff Susie Wiles sent shockwaves through the media world to start the week after issuing an unusual demand to his top, incoming Cabinet picks.

According to the Daily Mail, Wiles released a statement over the weekend instructing all of Trump's nominees to stop posting on social media without approval from Trump's office.

The ban on social media posts comes as the migrant visa debate within the MAGA community and Republican Party has turned into what seems like a civil war of sorts.

The memo, which was first reported by the New York Post, made it crystal clear that none of Trump's hires speak directly for the president-elect.

What did she say?

Wiles's memo took many by surprise, as it requires Trump's top Cabinet picks to be cleared by the incoming White House counsel before posting on social media.

"While this instruction has been delivered previously, I am reiterating that no member of the incoming administration or Transition speaks for the United States or the President-elect himself," the memo read.

It added, "Accordingly, all intended nominees should refrain from any public social media posts without prior approval of the incoming White House counsel."

While the H1B migrant visa debate was heated, to say the least, it's still unclear what sparked the incoming administration to issue such a rare and unexpected order to Trump's top lieutenants.

Musk, over the weekend, said he was ready to "go to war" over the backing of H1B visas, which sparked outrage within the MAGA community.

Just hours later, Trump released a statement in which he also defended the program, which sent the debate into orbit across social media, resulting in hardcore MAGA people taking aim at each other over the debate.

Mixed social media reaction

Wiles and Trump were cheered by some for issuing the demand, especially as his incoming Cabinet members gear up for fierce Senate confirmation hearings. Others didn't like the demand.

"Doesn't make sense. They should use SOCIAL MEDIA. especially X. We want to know -- we want to hear. they guys like RFK Jr, Kash patel, Tulsi and the others are GREAT on social media," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "I can see her point. Yet, she also possibly knows what the Dems are up to and is laying the grounds for their next move. The issue should not be about SM, but about how to use them without compromising the team before game starts."

It's unclear how long the social media gag will be in effect, though it'll probably be lifted after his picks are formally confirmed.
