Trump's DOJ likely to change stances on several major issues like abortion and firearms
To say that President-elect Donald Trump's Justice Department will look entirely different than President Joe Biden's version would be a massive understatement.
According to the Washington Examiner, Trump's DOJ will tackle a number of issues early on and reverse the stances of the Biden administration on several key issues.
The changing of the guard at the DOJ will also mean massive changes to the U.S. government's stance on issues like abortion, transgender-related issues, firearms issues, and even the controversy surrounding flavored vaping products.
Incoming presidents from opposing parties routinely reshape their Department of Justice on major issues, and one can be sure that Trump and his incoming Attorney General, Pam Bondi, will do just that.
What's happening?
Legal scholars and experts, like Thomas Wolf at the Brennan Center for Justice, are predicting that the Trump administration will completely reverse course on at least half a dozen cases.
The Examiner noted:
Trump’s own appellate lawyer, D. John Sauer, who handled his criminal cases during the campaign, is preparing to take on the new role of solicitor general and will likely follow a similar pattern of reversing legal stances held by the Biden administration.
The Biden administration, upon entering the White House, did the same thing with Trump's former DOJ stances on key issues.
While it's nothing new, the changing of legal stances will have profound impacts on cases that are already in the court system, even at the highest levels, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
It was noted that just because the Executive branch changes legal stances on certain issues doesn't mean that sitting justices and judges will automatically alter their view on a particular issue.
However, with the conservative majority high court, Trump's DOJ will have a much better shot at ultimately coming out ahead.
What are the issues?
Some of the key issues that could see a change from the Justice Department's point of view include transgender procedures for minors, firearms issues, specifically in the controversy surrounding "ghost guns," and the overregulation of flavored vaping products.
Also on the chopping board are the extreme emissions rules and laws in several blue states, which could help get America back on track as far as energy independence is concerned.
Perhaps one of the most controversial issues will be the abortion pill controversy -- namely that surrounding access to mifepristone, a chemical-based abortion pill.
Only time will tell what changes will be made under Trump's watch at the DOJ, but one can be sure they'll help get this country back on track.
