Trump's interview with Joe Rogan was a 'traumatic event' for Kamala Harris and her team
In the wake of former Vice President Kamala Harris' crushing defeat in November at the hands of President Donald Trump, new revelations are finally emerging as far as how the race affected her.
According to The New York Post, a newly released book about the 2024 election provided new insight into how her campaign began to fall apart, and podcasting legend Joe Rogan apparently had quite a bit to do with that.
"Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House,” from authors Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, detailed how not only did Trump's episode with Rogan prove to be "traumatic" for Harris, but also how her proposed interview "fell apart."
Harris and her campaign failed in their negotiations with Rogan. That, coupled with the fact that Trump's interview with the podcast giant went viral, was a crushing blow for the Harris campaign that arguably cost her the election.
What did the book say?
The authors gave detailed information regarding how the Joe Rogan podcast negotiation situation broke down and ultimately cost Harris' campaign considerably.
The Post noted:
Rogan confirmed in late October — just after publishing his sit-down with Trump — that he had been in negotiations with the Harris team for an interview, noting that talks had come to a standstill because of Harris’ demands. At the time, he expressed that he was still open to a future interview, and relayed that the Harris camp hadn’t canceled either.
As we all know now, that didn't work out well in the big picture for Harris and her team, which contrasted significantly with Trump's experience with Rogan.
"Trump spent three hours with Rogan in an interview that instantly went viral. The contrast amounted to a ‘traumatic event,’ said one Harris aide, ‘that I will never forget,’" the authors wrote.
The Harris campaign blamed Trump's sit-down with Rogan as a deciding factor as to why they ultimately didn't do it, but most don't buy it. Harris was simply too scared to be asked tough questions that she undoubtedly couldn't have answered.
And Rogan would have steamrolled her as a result.
"We were hoping to fit it in around that but ultimately weren’t able to do it," Harris campaign senior adviser Stephanie Cutter said on "Pod Save America." "As it turns out, that was the day that Trump was taping his Joe Rogan [appearance], which they had never confirmed to us. We just kind of figured that out in the lead-up to it."
Golden endorsement
While Rogan initially hesitated to make an endorsement, his brutally honest sit-down interview with Trump not only changed his mind, but clearly influenced the large base of fans of Rogan's show.
While it would have been difficult for Harris to follow Trump after his interview, it probably still would have been better than backing out of it.
This is just another lesson that should be learned by Democrats, but probably won't be. And that's fine.
