Trump's lawyers appear to catch Michael Cohen in a lie

Former President Donald Trump's lawyers appear to have just caught Michael Cohen in a serious lie.

This is according to a new report from the Daily Mail.

This, of course, is all taking place in the so-called hush-money case that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) has brought against Trump. Bragg alleges that Trump illegally recorded a payment that he allegedly gave to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet - about their alleged affair - ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Suffice it to say that things have not been going Bragg's way. Bipartisan legal experts, before the case even began, suggested that Bragg does not have anything, and, after several weeks of trial, this still appears to be the case.

Bragg's star witness flops

Bragg's star witness is Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for Trump who was instrumental in making the so-called hush-money deal. Before Cohen even took the stand, experts highlighted his credibility problem, given the fact that he has a history of lying - even when under oath.

Cohen has tried his best to flip the script, here, but it has not worked. Trump's lawyers, during cross-examination, appear to have caught Cohen in yet another lie.

"Donald Trump's defense lawyer accused star witness Michael Cohen of lying about a crucial phone that tied the former president to a cover-up around hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels in a dramatic exchange Thursday," the Daily Caller reports.

The outlet adds, "Defense lawyer Todd Blanche delivered his blow just before the lunch break, offering evidence that the key conversation was actually about a prank caller and not, as Cohen claimed three days earlier, about a $130,000 payment for Daniels' silence."

The Daily Mail goes on to explain that this is particularly important because "it undermines Cohen's testimony that he personally talked to Trump about plans to hide the hush money, a claim that is central to the case."

Charges dropped?

Trump, following this cross-examination, appeared quite pleased with the way the trial is going. In fact, he went so far as to suggest that things are going so badly for Bragg that he might be considering dropping the charges.

"People are thinking that Soros backed D.A., Alvin Bragg, who never wanted to bring the Witch Hunt against me in the first place, is going to drop this ridiculous and very unpatriotic 'CASE'  in order to save lots of money, and also the self-respect of his once revered Office," Trump wrote.

He added, "He would then be able to focus on Violent Crime, which is running rampant and totally out of control in New York. The dilemma is, and always has been, the Trump Hating (APPOINTED IN 2009 & STILL ACTING!) Judge, Juan Merchan, who would be confronted with the problem of how he would explain this TRUMP loss, to the Radical Left Democrats, to whom he owes so much? Bring back 'Justice in America.' ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!"

It would certainly make sense, considering how weak this case is.

But, given the fact that Bragg has pushed things along this far, it is hard to imagine him pulling out now.
