Trump's State Department halts processing visa applications for Afghan migrants
After two National Guard soldiers were shot in Washington, D.C., by an Afghan migrant, one fatally, President Donald Trump called for a temporary halt on the entry of any more Afghan nationals into the U.S. while ordering a review of all Afghans who are already here.
In accordance with Trump's orders, the State Department has now moved to stop processing applications and block entry for all Afghan nationals attempting to come to the U.S., according to the Daily Caller.
That pause could soon be extended to all migrants from "Third World Countries," so that the nation's systems can "fully recover" from and successfully integrate the mass of migrants granted entry into the U.S., often with minimal screening, under former President Joe Biden.
Trump says "No more"
On Wednesday, two members of the West Virginia National Guard on patrol in Washington, D.C., Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, were shot at close range, with Beckstrom succumbing to her fatal wounds the following day and Wolfe remaining hospitalized in critical condition.
The shooter, who was also shot by another Guard member and is in federal custody, was identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who allegedly worked with the CIA while U.S. forces were deployed in Afghanistan, and came to the U.S. in 2021 following Biden's chaotic withdrawal of American forces from that Central Asian nation, and a subsequent application for asylum in 2024 was finally rubberstamped in early 2025.
The Daily Caller reported that in reaction to the grievous attack, President Trump said during a Wednesday evening address, "This heinous assault was an act of evil and an act of hatred and an act of terror. It was a crime against our entire nation. It was a crime against humanity."
"We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here, or add benefit to our country," the president continued. "If they can’t love our country, we don’t want them."
"America will never bend and never yield in the face of terror, and at the same time, we will not be deterred from the mission the service members were so nobly fulfilling," Trump added.
Afghan entry visas halted
Fast-forward a few days, and the Daily Caller obtained a copy of an internal document from the State Department that ordered a halt to the processing of all pending visa applications from Afghan nationals.
Tommy Pigott, the State Department's principal deputy spokesman, told the outlet, "The Trump administration has no higher priority than ensuring the safety of Americans and has launched a whole-of-government effort to defend America’s national security."
"That’s why the State Department took action today to pause visa processing for Afghan nationals to enter the United States in the wake of a horrific terror attack against the National Guard," he added.
No more migrants from "Third World Countries"
The Daily Caller noted that the pause on migration could soon be extended to several other nations around the globe, if a lengthy Truth Social post from President Trump on Thursday is any indication.
Trump wrote, "I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization."
"These goals will be pursued with the aim of achieving a major reduction in illegal and disruptive populations, including those admitted through an unauthorized and illegal Autopen approval process," he added. "Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation."
