Tucker Carlson reveals the reason for his exit from Fox News

December 5, 2023

Tucker Carlson discussed the reason for his firing from Fox News during a recent podcast interview with comedian Roseanne Barr.

During a wide-ranging conversation on Donald Trump, the JFK assassination and other subjects, Carlson suggested he was axed for his controversial comments on January 6th and the war in Ukraine.

Carlson speaks on firing

Carlson said he knew in his "gut" that he was constantly pushing the boundaries of what his bosses would tolerate. Two subjects inflamed them in particular: January 6th and Ukraine.

"They were very nice to me the entire time I was there, but I could feel that they strongly disagreed on the war in Ukraine stuff," Carlson said.

"I'm just speculating...but they really didn't like that at all. The January 6th stuff they really didn't like," he added.

At Fox, Carlson regularly questioned whether federal law enforcement played a role in instigating the Capitol riot. He also got into hot water for opposing American intervention in Ukraine, which set him apart from the vast majority of mainstream media figures.

Today, the war is increasingly seen as a hopeless stalemate, and Ukraine is under mounting pressure to sue for peace.

Carlson's slot was eventually filled permanently by Jesse Watters, who has failed to capture the same ratings as his predecessor. Tucker Carlson Tonight regularly brought over 3 million viewers nightly.

As provocative as Carlson's Fox News show was, there was a limit to his freedom.

Carlson is an "active" Trump supporter

The network catered to "mediocrities" who the audience hated, Carlson said, pointing to Chris Wallace and Jonah Goldberg, who both quit over his January 6th commentary.

"But they were so outraged because I said, 'You know, it seems like there probably are a lot of feds in the crowd on January 6th,'" Carlson said.

The Capitol riot was a "complete set up," Carlson said.

Carlson also revealed that he is an active Trump supporter, citing the FBI raid of Mar-A-Lago as a red line.

"You cannot allow that. You cannot allow the regime, the president of the United States to use the Justice Department to knock the frontrunner out of the race," he said.

Since leaving Fox, Carlson has launched a new show, Tucker on X, which regularly draws millions of viewers.
