A member of the U.S. Olympic team has been arrested.

The New York Post reports that "U.S. Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested for misdemeanor battery on Thursday."

Early reports suggest that the arrest came after Kerley got physical with his ex-girlfriend.

A copy of the police report has been obtained by TMZ.

Here's what we know:

According to TMZ, Kerley was arrested for allegedly striking his ex-girlfriend, Alaysha Johnson, another Olympic athlete.

Per the outlet:

Johnson explained to police officers how she ran into Kerley, her ex, during training for an upcoming track and field event.

TMZ writes:

Kerley was subsequently arrested.

Not the first run-in with the police

Kerley is now facing a first-degree misdemeanor charge. It is unclear, at the time of this writing, whether or not he has been released from jail. He was still there as of Friday afternoon.

After the incident, he was pulled out of a track meet that he was scheduled to compete in. Apparently, the organizers thought that it would not be a good idea to have him compete.

Breitbart News reports that Kerley had just had a run-in with the police earlier this year. The outlet explains:

This is far from the first time Kerley has ended up on the wrong side of the law. In January this year, Kerley was tasered and wrestled to the ground by police in Miami Beach, Florida, after getting combative with police . . . Kerley pleaded not guilty to those charges.

He also, according to the outlet, "had a run-in back in 2024 when he was alleged to have strangled his wife, then stole her phone. He also pleaded not guilty in that incident.

Kerley and his attorney are asking his "fans and the public to please be patient."
